The obsessive repetition of everyday objects, often articles of clothing, is typical of Jim Dine. So over the years, starting from 1964, he has often represented the bathrobe, sometimes interpreting it as a kind of self-portrait. Although Dine does not usually wear bathrobes, he finds them appropriate for representing the human figure since, with their lack of a head and the end part of the legs, they perfectly fit into the format of the paper or canvas he prefers.
