Signed and dated in pencil on the margin at the bottom left, this etching on paper is a clear example of Morandi’s great technical skill in graphic production. For his whole life the artist dedicated an equal interest to painting and engraving; in fact from 1930 to 1956 he was appointed to teach Graphic Techniques at Bologna Fine Arts Academy, and in 1953 he won the Gran Premio for engraving at the San Paolo Biennale. With this technique too he favors still lifes and landscapes, combining a quintessential, synthetic approach with a skilful rendering of subtle shifts of tone.
