Yoko Ono’s hope banners for the reopening of the Met

Outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, signs have been posted for months saying: “We are closed”.

On August 29, however, one of the most important museums in the world will reopen its doors and for the first time in the history of the Met, the space that usually advertises the exhibitions, will be entrusted to Yoko Ono.

The artist created two banners, one that reads “DREAM” and one that reads “TOGETHER,

Met director Max Hollein says, “Ono is the ideal artist for the banner project, because she is “on the one hand, very connected to New York, but also someone who is an immigrant, who has traveled the world and has a global perspective, and brings that to her work. The banners, send a message to everyone who sees them of aspiration, resilience, and hope.”

“This display is a signal of the life returning to New York City and the Met” said Met president Daniel Weiss in a statement.
