Botero’s style explained by Botero
In the documentary dedicated to Fernando Botero, Ricerca senza fine, released last winter, some critics’ negative opinions about his painting are also collected.
Botero with the calm that distinguishes him, answers defining his style: “I do not paint fat women, I make men, animals, landscapes, fruit with the aim of communicating sensuality to the form. I like to convey this fullness, this generosity, this sensuality, because reality is arid”.
Regarding his passion for volumes, he adds: “It was my natural inclination, I don’t know why. Only when I change my ideas, I can change my style but as long as I continue to have the same ideas, I will continue to paint in the same way”.
