Andy Warhol Foundation donates $ 4M to U.S. arts organizations

Considering the undisputed supremacy of private funding to support the cultural sector in the States, it may come as no surprise that the Andy Warhol Foundation in New York recently declared that it will award $ 4 million to the 47 arts organizations located in 23 American states, part of its subsidy cycle. The funds will be donated to the realization of new shows and exhibitions, curatorial research and other cultural programs. Among the new beneficiaries that for the first time receive multi-year support from the Foundation are the Black Lunch Table in Chicago and the Tri-Star Arts in Nashville, which is working on the realization of the Tennessee Triennial for Contemporary Art, now scheduled for 2022. Fifteen museums, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio and the Colby College Museum of Art in Maine, are getting funding to support their exhibits and initiatives, while the DePaul Art Museum in Chicago , will receive $ 80,000 to create a multi-year initiative focused on Latinx artists in its shows and programs. A total of $ 142,000 will go to curatorial research in three institutions, including Jessica Bell Brown and Ryan Dennis for the Baltimore Museum of Art in Maryland.

“At this critical time, which defines the era, the contributions of artists to cultural and political dialogue are more necessary than ever,” said Joel Wachs, president of the Foundation. Rachel Bers, director of the Andy Warhol Foundation program, added: “In the face of the interconnected crises that we are facing as a nation and as a society, the foundation is doubling its commitment to artists as they face and represent our difficult past, present and future.”
