Top price 2019

According to the “art and collectibles market” report prepared by Deloitte Private, last year’s most expensive works were auctioned by art market leaders Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
At the top of the list we find Claude Monet’s Meules purchased for 110.747 million dollars beaten by Sotheby’s on 05/14/2019, followed by Jeff Koons’ Rabbit for 91 million dollars and Robert Rauschenberg’s Buffalo II for 88.8 million dollars , both auctioned at Christie’s on 05/15/2019.
The interest in top quality lots during 2019 remained high, even if there was a slight drop in overall turnover. The painting sector and other non-artistic collectibles (passion assets) decreased mainly by 18.6% and 6.1% respectively. On the other hand, the number of transactions remained stable thanks to the growing number of new buyers on online platforms.

“The art market has undergone the effects of the uncertainty that characterized the political landscape” says Fideuram private banker Pietro Ripa. Let’s not forget that 2019 was characterized by the war on tariffs and by the turbulence related to the tax regimes of some countries.
